These days, your wedding is SO much more than your color palette. There are endless design decisions to make and every detail matters – from your linens, to your flower choices, to your menu cards. However, when beginning the planning process we do still begin with a color palette. Many brides have a difficult time picking their colors knowing it is the foundation of their design. See our top tips below so that you can pick your color palette with confidence!
2. Consider the Season: While you are not limited to the seasonal colors for your big day, this is an easy way to narrow things down if you feel stuck. If you are getting married in the winter but don’t want it to feel like a Christmas themed wedding you can go with clean lines, lots of white and some winter greens. If your wedding is during spring time this is a fun time to incorporate lush greenery, pastels and some pops of bright color. Summer weddings can be so FUN to design because you can freely enjoy all of the bright colors. When fall rolls around we always recommend going natural like the changing leaves. Embrace deep reds, oranges and neutral colors.
3. Reflect your Personal Style: This is arguably the most important point in our list and here at In the Details this is something we always emphasize – and that is to stay true to yourself! The colors you love to wear, to decorate with, etc are the colors that are going to be easy to design with during planning. For example, I love pale pink and that was the main color at my wedding. I look back years later and I still love it because it is so true to my own style. I find this to be true with our brides. So don’t decorate with orange just because it is fall – do it if YOU love orange!
4. Set the Mood: Think about how you want to feel and how you want your guests to feel at your wedding. If you want to create a cozy and inviting atmosphere, stick with warmer colors and lots of candlelight. If you want a super fun and party-like atmosphere go bold with bright colors! If you are looking to have a very classy and timeless wedding, you can never go wrong with neutrals.
5. Limit your Palette: Do not overwhelm yourself by trying to create a beautiful event that has 10 different colors. Pick 2-4 colors and then you can work with different shades of those colors. Always get swatches when you can and see how your colors work together.
Remember to have fun with this! Your color palette is a very important aspect of your day as it will set the tone for your entire design but as long as you stay true to the things you love then it will always be timeless to you. There are no rules when it comes to choosing your color palette. Just go with your insincts and what feels right for you and your future spouse!
